About us
As teachers, we know how important it is for students to be able to perform well in their studies. Unfortunately, for many this is not the case due to the deficiencies suffered by many of the students and their families.
Essential things may be needed, such as a nutritious meal, hygiene products, clothing and footwear, recreation, etc. In addition, the desire of many of them to have or do things that for other people may be insignificant, may also go unfulfilled. Having a good pair of shoes, enough clothes for the whole week, or a ticket to watch a movie or to attend a sporting event are all worthy wishes that help our students' well being.
Our sole purpose is to support students and their families with the objectives mentioned above to make them feel better and at the same time to help them to perform better in school.
HOW WE STARTED
In 2018, our original group of 5 teachers participated in an event called Long Beach Giving Project, which gave us a donation of $500 to buy products and services within one week. The goods and services would be granted to people in need in the community. In this case we decided to benefit some of our students and their families. It was not possible to help many families, but we did our best.
At the end of the week, we were invited to a dinner meeting where all the participating groups would present before a group of judges the way they used the $500 donation in their community. The winning group would receive a $1,000 donation which would have to be used for the same cause. Happily, we won this contest!
The $1,000 donation was used to buy and to distribute food and products to 8 families of our students. At the end of the distribution to the families, we ended with a great sense of happiness to see the reaction of gratitude from all those families. Then, we asked ourselves, why not do this in a permanent way to be able to benefit many more students and their families and any other person in the community that needs it.
That's how "One Wish One Need" began.
“Give people the best of what is within you and help others to awaken to their best self so that they too can live a life of abundance.”
